A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: Summer Treat to Go ($29.95)

Summer gives way to many activities that people aren’t normally able to indulge in during the other seasons of the year. Now that school’s out and the Hawaiian sun is beaming down with particular ferocity, families and friends are heading to the beach, campgrounds and anywhere outdoors, really.

To supplement these summer festivities, Max’s of Manila has prepared a special Summer Treat to Go, which conveniently comes with a free Max’s eco bag perfect for carrying all that delicious Filipino fare.

Pork Barbecue Skewers ($10 Summer Treat to Go, $11.95 regular) “For $10 more, you can get four sticks of Barbecue Pork Skewers,” says general manager Maly San Luis. The perfectly grilled skewers are fairly new to Max’s menu and come with a garlic-vinegar dipping sauce.

Feed your outdoor warriors a meal that is sure to fuel their drive for fun in the sun with Max’s Fried Chicken, Pancit and Lumpiang Shanghai.

If you’re on the road and in need of some immediate refreshment, however, opt for the restaurant’s colorful and cooling Halo-Halo dessert, which blends tropical fruit, beans, flan and rice flakes on top of shaved ice and a scoop of ube (purple yam) ice cream.

And don’t forget that Max’s expertly caters any special occasion year-round, and can even host parties — large or small — at both of its Honolulu and Waipahu locations.
