Sometimes you just can’t find the time to sit down in a restaurant, wait for a menu, have your order taken and wait again for the food — which, of course, is why takeout is so popular.

But just because you’re in a hurry doesn’t mean you don’t want an appetizing variety of dishes to choose from, especially if you’re with friends or family. You may be in the mood for Chinese, but one of your coworkers prefers local food, while another is all about Japanese cuisine — and you’re all in a bit of a hurry.

That’s where Asian Mix comes in.

Mainly a takeout eatery, although it does have some seating outdoors, Asian Mix, conveniently located in the new Safeway building on Beretania Street, is a fast, easy way to get your Asian food fix. And if you don’t choose to eat meat or fish, don’t fret, you can still find some faves here.

Tofu and Eggplant with Garlic Sauce ($7.95), for instance, contains absolutely no meat products, according to owner Daniel Leung. The sauteed tofu and eggplant are served in a rich, dark garlic sauce.

But that’s not all. “We can do vegetable fried rice and vegetable noodles, the way vegetarians like it,” Leung says.

He also recommends Vegetables with Garlic ($7.95), in which veggies including carrots, broccoli, choi sum and mushrooms are stir-fried with savory garlic, as well as the Vegetarian Bento ($5.45), which, along with a healthy helping of vegetables, comes with nishime, pickled vegetables and rice (for brown rice, add 50 cents). And, as you can see, it’s all quite affordable.
