BBQ Pork Sliders ($11.50)

Growler Hawaii, nestled in Hee Hing Plaza on Kapahulu Avenue, just mauka of First Hawaiian Bank, will mark five years of being in business on Aug. 16.

Growler Hawaii is a 100% locally owned-and–operated craft beer pub. A growler is a type of container used to carry beer.

Owners William “Bill” and Cheryl Muneno were born and raised on Oahu. They also have three children — Jessica, Joshua and Jacob, all Maryknoll School graduates — who participate in running the company. Growler Hawaii offers everything from delectable cuisine to top-notch beverages.

Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos ($11)

“We have 100 taps serving beer, hard cider, hard seltzer and wine. Our craft beer and hard cider draft lineup is one of the largest in Hawaii, with approximately one-third of our taps devoted to locally brewed and/or branded beverages,” Bill notes.

The business also serves other liquors and mixed drinks.

Among the eatery’s delicious food choices are the BBQ Pork Sliders ($11.50 for three). It features pulled pork with barbecue sauce and coleslaw on brioche buns.

12-inch Combination Pizza ($19)

Another selection is the Chicken Wings ($22 a dozen, $16.75 for nine pieces and $11.75 for six pieces). These are oven-baked wings tossed in a choice of sauce, including baked Buffalo, honey Sriracha, grilled Asian or barbecue.

The 12-inch Combination Pizza ($19), features choices of toppings such as pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, olives, red and yellow bell peppers and onion with three cheeses.

Customers who wish for fish can opt for the Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos ($11). These seasoned pieces of fish are served on a soft taco with pico de gallo and coleslaw. Limes and sour cream are on the side.

Two other popular food items available are the Bavarian Pretzel Sticks and the Kalua Pork Nacho Dip.

Growler Hawaii also has a happy hour from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. daily. Most beer and ciders are 25% off a standard pour of 13 or 16 ounces. Already discounted drinks are not included. Margaritas are $5 and Long Island iced teas are $6. Sliders, small baked tots or fries, small edamame, veggie quesadilla, pretzel sticks and three-cheese flatbreads are all 20% off.
