Hy’s flies high with happy hour specials

Hy’s Steak House is one of those sure bet restaurants where you know the food, service and setting will all add up to an exceptional evening to remember.

Known for its top-quality USDA prime steaks broiled over Hawaiian kiawe wood, Hy’s also offers a long list of tasty appetizers, specialty salads, fresh seafood, desserts and more, as well as tableside preparation for many of its classic dishes.

The restaurant also recently introduced happy hour Monday-Friday, 5-6:30 p.m. in its lounge. Happy hour is perfect for those who want a quick bite to eat, but still prefer a fine-dining experience.

The (happy hour) menu boasts about a dozen items, ranging in price from $4 to $15. Among the favorites are Grilled Asparagus with Shaved Parmesan & Truffle Oil ($8), asparagus grilled over kiawe wood and topped with poached egg, American bacon, a hint of white truffle oil and Parmesan shavings.

Also popular are Fresh Oysters en Half Shell ($15) and Ahi Poke ($12), consisting of smaller bites of fresh ahi mixed with shoyu, sesame oil, onion and red chili flakes.

Begging for a burger? Prime Beef Blue Cheese Sliders ($12) — with two USDA Prime beef hamburgers topped with melted blue cheese, arugula, and served on taro slider buns — is mouthwatering . Of course, take advantage of drink specials, including $8 cocktails, wines by the glass and beers.

“We have a nice lounge and happy hour is something we thought people may want,” explains general manager Bob Panter.

Hy’s signature dining room, described as an old English mansion with the ambiance of a private gentlemen’s club, is a hidden treasure in itself, and not what you would imagine from the outside. Hy’s also recently renovated its other dining area known as the Executive Level, along with a private room in the back called the Executive Suite.

The restaurant celebrates a 37-year dining tradition, and hosts live entertainment daily and offers its guests complimentary valet parking.
