Let’s Get it Started at Ruth’s Chris

A common pet peeve held by diners searching for Happy Hour specials is the always-disappointing promise of discounted pupus that often equates to tiny portions — and empty stomachs.

However, when it comes to the Happy Hour at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, no worries. Every appetizer on the discounted menu available daily from 5 to 7 p.m. comes served as a full portion — just as you would get after ordering off the traditional menu — but at a sweet price, as most items are half off. The pau hana pit stop also offers up drink specials on everything from ice-cold draft beer to wine and martinis.

The Oysters Rockefeller ($8) steals the show, and is an event in itself. The five half-shells are baked and served flaming as a touch of Malibu 151 rum is ignited on a bed of Hawaiian salt as the dish is brought to the table. Talk about a cool touch to this hot seller.

“It’s all about the flame,” says general manager Don Asam after igniting a plate of oysters at the Restaurant Row location. “At night, the flame shows blue.”

Ruth’s Chris also offers a stellar selection of seafood starters headlined by the Ahi, served seared or sashimi-style ($8). The freshly cut fish is prepared with a lightly blackened crust or traditionally, and is accompanied by a tangy mustard sauce. The Fried Calamari ($7), Barbequed Shrimp ($7) and Mushrooms Stuffed With Crab Meat ($7) also provide diners with the ultimate fresh catch.
