New gastropub serves ‘Brilliant’ dishes

Crispy Pork Belly ($21)

Guests are encouraged to join the herd of diners who have discovered The Brilliant Ox, a new hot spot located at Ala Moana Center’s Hookipa Terrace.

Executive chef Brian Gremillion puts an intriguing spin on American and local-style dishes at the gastropub, which in addition to its enticing menu, features an open-inviting atmosphere and two full bars offering everything from beer and wine to signature, hand-crafted cocktails.

Platter of Roasted Bone Marrow ($26)

For starters, check out the Scotch Egg “Katsu”($12), which features a house-made chicken sausage enveloping a hard-boiled egg that is fried katsu-style and accompanied by sesame seeds, a bulldog sauce, shredded cabbage and bonito — dried fish flakes that dance atop the dish.

During dinner service, guests rave about the Platter of Roasted Bone Marrow ($26), a hearty pupu-style array of rich, buttery bone marrow accompanied by pickled Alii mushrooms, shallots, caramelized onions, sea salt and grilled bread.

Scotch Egg “Katsu” ($12)

Crispy Pork Belly ($21) is a flavorful entree available for lunch and dinner. It and consists of tender pork with crispy skin paired with a chili-garlic sauce, grilled cabbage and scallions.

Happy hour specials are available daily from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., and brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What’s more, The Brilliant Ox will be open until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday starting June 29.
