Step through the doors at Larry’s Bakery and expect to take a little journey back in time; but don’t worry, you won’t need a DeLorean. With new items to keep you in the present, Larry’s Bakery also is bringing back old favorites.

“The pastries that we started to bring back is stuff that my dad was doing 40 years ago, so it’s almost like we’re reinventing the wheel,” shares Lance Yafuso, son of the bakery’s namesake, who oversees the business with sister Iris Yafuso.

A popular treat among customers, and an original recipe by Larry being reintroduced to the menu, Cinnamon Twist ($1.75) is made with a flaky dough that is dipped in cinnamon sugar and glazed after it is baked.

“For some of the older folks, they reminisce because not too many bakeries are doing that now, and for the new guys, it’s something totally new,” says Yafuso.

The bakery, which continues to be a family affair, has been a staple in the community for 52 years.

Though most of the impressive selection is comprised of creations passed down from their father, a few of the items are newer recipes. Pumpkin Butter Mochi ($2) is a specialty being offered for the Thanksgiving season. With a recipe and texture similar to butter mochi, its flavors are a reminder of the approaching holidays, and include a pinch of nostalgia for a longtime local favorite.

And with baking that begins around 3:30 a.m., look forward to a fresh start to your day, no matter your choice.
