Craving some of the sweeter things in life? Well, look no further than Larry’s Bakery on Lawehana Street in Salt Lake, where you’re sure to find a treat of a lifetime.
Siblings Iris and Lance Yafuso oversee much of the operations of this family-run business that presents loyal customers with temptingly delicious baked goods, including cakes, cookies, breads and brownies. And now, this highly skilled team of bakers is also adding a variety of famous butter mochi to the list.
“We have three types of our new featured item (butter mochi) — Butter Mochi with Chocolate Brownie, Butter Mochi with Okinawan Sweet Potato and our regular Butter Mochi,” Iris says. “We call our Butter Mochi with Chocolate Brownie the ‘Monster’ because our baker, Milton Isinang, is the man behind this popular item. We tell him he created a monster — everyone’s going crazy over it!”
The Butter Mochi with Chocolate Brownie and the Butter Mochi with Okinawan Sweet Potato sell for $2 a piece, while the original Butter Mochi costs $1.50. According to Iris, the butter mochi itself serves as a great option for party favors or as a mere indulgence for those with a sweet tooth.
“We keep to the traditional butter mochi taste and texture, but yet the brownie and Okinawan sweet potato add a little bit of sweetness to it,” she says.
“So far the Butter Mochi with Chocolate Brownie has been one of my better ideas,” Isinang adds. “This mochi is perfect; it’s not too heavy or greasy, and we hope our customers enjoy it as much as we do.”
