For nearly 70 years, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue has been proudly serving up the state’s quintessential meal — the plate lunch — bolstered by an array of local-style proteins that both kamaaina and visitors have come to love. What started as a mom-and-pop shop in the heart of Liliha has grown to hundreds of franchises all over the world. The secret to L&L’s success? Focusing on good food and bringing people together.

“There are no frills,” notes Brandon Dela Cruz, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue director of marketing. “We give good value and good portions at affordable prices. That’s always been what we’re known for.”

Platters run the gamut from Hawaiian Barbecue (Teriyaki) Chicken and Chicken Katsu (Fried Chicken) to Barbecue (Teriyaki) Beef.

Well, that, and the fact that everything on the menu at L&L is delicious.

As the holidays make their steady approach, the restaurant has got families covered with great catering options to celebrate.

“We have a lot of variety with our catering dishes,” he adds. “We have the real good, traditional kind of dishes.”

Signature items include the Chicken Katsu (Fried Chicken), Hawaiian Barbecue (Teriyaki) Chicken, Barbecue (Teriyaki) Beef, and Kalua Pork and Cabbage, as well as plate lunch staples like rice and mac salad.

Those opting to celebrate in smaller groups can still pick up their favorite plate lunch from the L&L nearest them. Not sure what to get? The Seafood Combo and BBQ Mix plates are great options to satisfy multiple cravings. In addition, lighter plates feature salads instead of the two scoops rice.

There are also other meals like a BBQ Cheeseburger, BBQ Chicken Bowl, Loco Moco, Spam Musubi and Spam Saimin available — call ahead to find out what’s on the menu at your favorite L&L location.

And, the restaurant and its franchise locations are still accepting Hawaii Restaurant Card — make sure to stop in before it expires Dec. 15.

“No matter what, we just want to let people know that we’re here for everyone’s safety and well-being during this challenging time,” concludes Dela Cruz.
