A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: PRIME TIME MENU ($64.95 WITH NEW YORK STRIP STEAK)

Most truly great things start with a bang, but in the case of Ruth’s Chris Steak House, the restaurant began with a satisfying sizzle. Founder Ruth Fertel opened the business in New Orleans in 1965, and set the tone for what is now one of the most recognizable and expansive luxury steak house chains in the world.

Her idea to serve quality steaks on 500-degree plates so that every bite could be enjoyed propelled Ruth’s Chris to the top of carnivore-lovers’ lists. And all of the restaurant’s locations, including Hawaii’s flagship branch at Waterfront Plaza, continue to carry out Fertel’s legacy through her original recipes and dedication to service.

One of the best ways to enjoy Ruth Chris’ USDA Prime-grade meat — which is seasoned with salt and pepper, cooked in an 1800-degree oven and finished off with whole butter — is by ordering the Prime Time Menu, offered at all locations from 5 to 6 p.m. The menu includes a full meal with dessert for two available prices: $54.95 and $64.95. (depending on entree choice).

If you come for pau hana, you’ll also want to grab a drink, as the restaurant has a mixologist on-hand and an extensive wine list. And for special occasions, you can reserve any one of the three private dining rooms.

Regardless of when you dine, “Follow the sizzle,” as executive chef Eser Domingo puts it. “It’ll lead you to Ruth’s Chris!”
