With the goal of offering a substantial, quality meal that’s also good for you, Ahi & Vegetable owner Sam Seo takes the necessary steps to make that possible. From venturing to the fish auction each morning to acquire the freshest, top-of-the-line ahi for his restaurant, to cutting everything in-house, there is nothing Seo wouldn’t do for his customers.

After finding success at his original Fort Street Mall location in Downtown, Seo opened another Ahi & Vegetable in Kalihi, giving patrons even more opportunities to devour the eatery’s always-fresh fare.

Although specializing in seafood of the raw variety, the establishment also offers cooked foods, serving up Teriyaki Chicken, Beef Curry Rice, Udon with Shrimp Tempura and much more. Ahi & Vegetable even incorporates cooked foods into its catering options with selections such as C-7, a platter of California Rolls (maki-style) and teriyaki chicken. Still, there are catering items brimming with fresh-fish selections, too, including C-10, which features an array of ahi, hamachi and salmon sashimi.

Most notable, however, would have to be the casual eatery’s bentos. With 10 to choose from, there’s sure to be something that’s right for every customer. “The bentos are a good price and the most popular,” Seo says. “You can have cooked fish, raw fish, meat and veggies.” Each bento includes miso soup and is exactly $12. (The restaurant already includes tax in all of its prices.)

Try Bento No. 9 (B-9), which includes two ahi nigiri, two salmon nigiri, California roll (four pieces) and a serving of tasty shoyu poke. This combination is the ultimate seafood-lover’s dream and showcases what Ahi & Vegetable does best — fresh fish.

For those who prefer their meals cooked, opt for Bento No. 3 (B-3). The selection comes with furikake-adorned rice, pan-seared ahi and salmon, as well as grilled teriyaki chicken.

So, whether you’re stopping in on your lunch break, bringing food to a party or just looking for a healthier meal, Ahi & Vegetable is the place to go. Not only is the establishment’s food top-notch, but the service is, too — another detail Seo makes sure to follow through on.
