Braised Beef Brisket with Lettuce Base ($15.95)

The high ceilings and elegant decor at The Mandalay in downtown Honolulu help to create the sophisticated feel that the Chinese restaurant is going for. As for the food, it’s also nothing but top-notch.

With a second level perfect for holding large, private events, as well as various sliding doors downstairs capable of sectioning off more intimate private rooms, The Mandalay plays the perfect host to any special occasion. What’s more is the establishment also caters!

Patrons looking to opt out of cooking this Thanksgiving are in for a treat, as The Mandalay will feature a Dim Sum Brunch Buffet ($23.99 adults, $18.99 seniors 60-plus, $14.99 keiki 3-12) on the holiday (seatings at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.) — which will include Turkey with Chinese Stuffing and a plethora of delicious dim sum options. There also will be a Dinner Buffet ($28.99 adults, $23.99 seniors 60-plus, $17.99 keiki 3-12) with seatings at 5 and 7 p.m. and a more entree-heavy menu, including Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs and Peking Duck with Bun.

CHINESE FOOD DONE RIGHT

The Mandalay not only offers traditional dishes such as Braised Beef Brisket with Lettuce Base ($15.95), featuring tender pieces of beef mixed in a thick shoyu and brown-sugar sauce, but also more contemporary items like Golden Shrimp ($19.95). The latter is prepared by deep-frying shrimp with the shells on and then stir-frying them in egg yolk and special seasonings, alongside slightly sweet chunks of pumpkin. The aroma and flavor are rich and intoxicating.
