Longtime Kalihi diner Kenny’s Restaurant might have closed its doors last year, but you can still get local-style favorites in the same location thanks to Kam Bowl Restaurant.
It’s best known for oxtail soup and variations of fried rice, but the menu also is stocked with curry, ramen, kalbi and chicken katsu.
Kam Bowl has an entire page of its menu dedicated to classic breakfast dishes, but you also can find less common items like Japanese Breakfast ($10.95). It comes with your choice of salmon, mahi mahi or saba, along with rice, one egg, miso soup, tsukemono and tossed salad.
“(The fish) is grilled and lightly salted, and the eggs can be cooked any way you want,” says server and floor manager Naomi Crouch.
Plus, Kam Bowl just began offering a new keiki menu last week. Coming up, expect a set of daily specials to debut.
One of Kam Bowl’s new dishes is Kalua Pork Soup ($8.95) with rice, which features smoked kalua pork and cabbage boiled in a broth steeped with a pork bone for maximum flavor.
