Since opening in May, Crab House Makino has been drawing crowds to Waikiki to experience the great value offered in its All You Can Eat buffet.

The spacious restaurant features separate food stations, including a main buffet line, a sushi and poke bar, ramen and udon counter, tempura bar, salad bar, dessert area and more. In total, there are more than 20 food items to choose from.

“Makino’s No. 1 Orange Chicken has become our No. 1 seller,” shares Natasha Mina, chef and kitchen manager. “It’s an original Chinese-style orange chicken recipe. A lot of people like it. They say they like the texture of the chicken and the flavor. We serve the sauce separately, so the chicken stays crispy and you can choose how much sauce you want.”

Also popular is Ribeye Steak (available for dinner only), which is seasoned with garlic salt and pepper, and cooked to order.

Upon availability, you also may find Live Lobster (buffet price subject to change when there’s lobster on the menu). So that you’re not surprised or disappointed, it’s best to call ahead for availability and price information.

The regular buffet menu features a mix of Chinese dishes — such as Beef Broccoli, Sweet and Sour Pork, Black Bean Clams and Shrimp Siu Mai — as well as Japanese foods like shrimp tempura and yakisoba noodles.

There also is everyone’s favorite, Snow Crab, available during lunch and dinner. The dessert station offers a variety of cakes, as well as crepes and bread pudding.

Beer, wine and soft drinks also may be purchased.

The lunch buffet is priced at just $16.98, while dinner is $22.98 Monday to Friday, and $23.98 on Saturday and Sunday. Now through Sept. 4, enjoy the Live Lobster dinner buffet for $27.98. The price for children 12 years and under is determined by height: 50 percent off the regular price for kids 4 to 5 feet tall, 75 percent off for 3 to 4 feet, and free if they’re under 3 feet. Also, ask for kamaaina discounts (during weekdays) and senior citizen discounts (anytime).

“We have a lot of people who celebrate their birthdays here and other special occasions, such as retirement and graduation parties,” adds Mina.
