Rewarding Diners with Scorching-Hot Deals

As the summer days continue to heat up, Zippy’s Restaurants are rolling out cool savings and new menu items to complement its award-winning offerings available at affordable prices within an inviting atmosphere.

Zippy’s was honored recently with a trio of commendations in Honolulu Star-Advertiser‘s annual Hawaii’s Best People’s Choice Awards for serving up the “Best Family Dining,” representing the “Best Late Night Eatery” and offering the “Best Bento,” the latter of which recognizes the iconic Zip Pac.

Through July 31, Zippy’s is presenting a special Kokua Pac Star Edition ($8.15 at the fast food counter, $9.35 in the dine-in restaurant) in partnership with HUGS, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families who have children coping with serious illnesses. The new Kokua Pac Star Edition includes Spam, Portuguese sausage, breaded shrimp and Korean fried chicken over rice with takuan. As part of the promotion, 25 cents from each Kokua Pac sold will be donated to HUGS; customers may also purchase a “Heart for HUGS” for just $1 each and can make additional donations at designated boxes at any Zippy’s location.

“HUGS is a local organization founded in 1982 with a mission of improving the quality of life for families as they face emotional and financial hardships while caring for a seriously ill child,” explains Jeanine Mamiya-Kalahiki, marketing manager at Zippy’s Restaurants. “It’s the only organization of its kind in the state and offers special programs and services free of charge. They are not a large, national organization, so all fundraising dollars really help. We are proud supporters of HUGS, as it directly serves our community and our customers.”

Zippy’s continues to roll out delicious new salads at its dine-in restaurants, including the new Bacon Egg Parmesan Salad ($9.95, available through July 31 at dine-in restaurants only). The tasty creation incorporates fresh Kunia aquaponic greens tossed in a sweet vinaigrette and topped with chopped bacon, chopped hard-boiled egg, Parmesan cheese, craisins, diced tomatoes and croutons.

Generations of diners have flocked to Zippy’s in pursuit of delectable desserts and the eatery has created yet another tasty treat in Banana Crumble Waffle with Caramel Rum Sauce ($8.75, at dine-in restaurants only). Throughout July, guests can enjoy a crisp Belgian waffle topped with sliced bananas, ice cream, whipped cream, Melting Moments cookie crumbles and a warm caramel rum sauce. While the dessert item is great to share with friends and family gathered around the table, it is understandable if one chooses to fly solo and polish off the entire serving!

As keiki prepare for the upcoming school year, Zippy’s is offering a special “Back to School Giveaway” for customers ages 11-17. The giveaway, which ends July 31, will result in five grand-prize recipients winning a $500 Pearlridge gift certificate, $100 HIC gift card and a head-to-toe makeover from Heaven On Earth.

To coincide with the special giveaway, Zippy’s also is dishing out breakfast bentos at special prices now through July 31. Deluxe Breakfast Bento ($5.95) features a delicious mix of corned beef hash, Portuguese sausage, Spam, scrambled eggs and rice. Breakfast Bento 1 ($3.90) includes Spam, scrambled egg, corned beef hash and rice, while Breakfast Bento 2 ($3.90) substitutes Portuguese sausage for the corned beef. Breakfast Bento 3 ($3.90) incorporates Portuguese Sausage, scrambled egg, corned beef hash and rice — a perfect combination to start the day off right. The aforementioned bentos are available at the fast food counter during breakfast hours only and will be offered at the special prices throughout July.

“The breakfast bentos are very popular and are perfect for our on-the-go guests,” says Mamiya-Kalahiki. “Pick up a bento to take with you to the beach when you head out early in the morning.”

Diners are reminded that prices may vary at Zippy’s locations across Oahu, Kahului, Maui and Hilo. Zippy’s invites diners to pick up a Kokua Pac Star Edition (or two) and see why the establishment was yet again deemed one of Hawaii’s Best dining destinations.
