With Thanksgiving Day here sooner than we think, many are giving thanks to Zippy’s Restaurants, the Islands’ signature destination for all of your favorites in localand American-style comfort food. And why be a slave to the kitchen on a day that should be devoted to family and friends? Zippy’s gets it. That’s why the restaurant once again is offering its hassle-free Zippy’s Thanksgiving Meals To Go Packages — an annual tradition since 1998.

“Back then, we had a department at select Zippy’s locations called ‘Zippy’s To Go.’ The concept was to provide convenience to families by offering foods already prepared and ready to reheat,” explains Zippy’s marketing manager Jeanine Mamiya-Kalahiki. “We wanted to do something for Thanksgiving, and that is when we started selling our Half Turkey Packages. Then, in 2002, the Whole Turkey Package was added because of customer requests.”

The pre-set meals are a must-have for an increasing amount of kamaaina families, who enjoy the holiday without having to worry if aunty’s take on grandma’s homemade stuffing is family-approved. Sit back, relax and leave it up to Zippy’s to help make this Thanksgiving one to remember.

A Whole Turkey Package is priced at $89.95 (plus tax), and includes a 10-to 12-pound (cooked weight) refrigerated and fully cooked whole roast turkey, 4 pounds Poultry Gravy, 4 pounds Real Mashed Potatoes, 3 pounds Stuffing, 1 pound Cranberry Pineapple Relish and one dozen Sweet Dinner Rolls. For $45.95 (plus tax), a Half Turkey Package presents a 5- to 6-pound (cooked weight) fully cooked Roast Turkey, 2 pounds Poultry Gravy, 2 pounds Real Mashed Potatoes, 1-and-a-half-pounds stuffing, half-pound Cranberry Pineapple Relish and six Sweet Dinner Rolls. Place an order for a Thanksgiving Meals To Go Package, and add a Napoleon’s Bakery Pumpkin or Custard Pie to the meal for $8.25 more. Limit is two pies per package.

New this year, Zippy’s now offers a Whole Turkey (without the fixings) for $57.95 (plus tax).

Mamiya-Kalahiki encourages customers to place their order(s) in advance by visiting Zippys.com and clicking on the “Thanksgiving Meals To Go” link. Prepayment is required to place an order, and online ordering is available for Oahu pickups only. Orders are accepted over the phone until Nov. 26 by calling Zippy’s Administration Office at 973-0880 Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pre-orders also will be received Saturday, Nov. 22, and Sunday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards are accepted forms of payment.

Thanksgiving Meals To Go Packages are available for pickup Wednesday, Nov. 26, and Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, at Zippy’s McCully, Vineyard, Koko Marina, Kahala, Waipahu, Waiau, Wahiawa, Kapolei, Mililani, Kaneohe, Kailua and Kahului, Maui. Customers may work with Zippy’s staff to set up a convenient pickup time.

And customer response has been exceptional. In fact, Mamiya-Kalahiki reports that Zippy’s fills more than 1,000 orders every year.

“We provide a much-appreciated service to our customers. It saves precious time and effort for our customers. We provide a complete Thanksgiving meal — all that is required is reheating,” she says. “We use Butterball turkeys, and everything is made from scratch, so you can expect it to be delicious.

“Patrons have the option to purchase additional sides to go along with their meal, as well as holiday sushi platters, which should be ordered at least 48 hours in advance,” she adds.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Zippy’s Restaurants also tempts dining enthusiasts Nov. 26-28 with its dine-in/fast-food counter specials (while supplies last) available from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Select from Roast Turkey Plate ($9.95 fast-food counter, $11.45 restaurant), Baked Ham ($8.50 fast-food counter, $9.75 restaurant), Roast Turkey/Baked Ham Combo ($10.45 fast-food counter, $11.95 restaurant) and Grilled Salmon with Crab and Artichoke Sauce ($14.95 restaurant only).

Zippy’s Restaurants has satisfied appetites for generations, when founder Charlie Higa and his brother Francis opened the first establishment in Mc-Cully in 1966. Now, with a total of 24 locales statewide, Zippy’s shares its aloha throughout the Islands, and is a very influential part of Hawaii’s unique dining culture.
