It’s lunchtime, you’re in Kapolei with a diverse group of friends and/or family, and everyone seems to have different tastes and preferences. It’s a common challenge, and best met by an eatery that can please all palates, which is a tough task.

It’s why buffets were invented: to satisfy any and every appetite. And to go one better, all-you-can eat buffets not only offer a variety of dishes to choose from, but the freedom to return again and again to fill your plate with favorites and turn your hungry frown upside down.

Ho Ho Chinese Cuisine has embraced the concept, and its extensive all-you-can-eat lunch buffet ($9.95 Monday through Friday; $11.95 Saturday and Sunday) is brimming with something for everyone.

And everyone, of course, includes vegetarians.

General manager James Ching understands that there are many customers and potential customers out there who choose not to eat meat or fish, and he has some savory meat-free recommendations for Dining Out readers.

Crispy Vegetable Spring Rolls are always a popular starter, and these are filled with carrots, cabbage and mushrooms. For noodle lovers (and who isn’t?), Vegetable Gon Lo Mein is a dry-style stir-fry with julienne-cut carrots, green onions and cabbage. For a bit of spicy crunch, try the Bean Sprout Kim Chee to wake up your taste buds. Braised Tofu with Shiitake Mushroom and Choi Sum is a hearty and healthy dish, which Ching says is sauteed in a light shoyu-based sauce and is quite popular with diners.

There’s more, so the next time you’re hungry and looking for lunch in the Second City, just put on a smile and go Ho Ho.
