Sometimes to enjoy a good thing you’re going to have to get a little dirty. A hands-on experience, Sam Choy’s Breakfast, Lunch & Crab features its Onolicious Rack of Ribs ($29.95). Please do not let your eyes become bigger then your stomach, unless, of course, you think you can take down 2 pounds of Sam’s char-siu glazed ribs. If you cannot finish it, I’m sure someone at your table may want to try a rib or two . . . or three. One word used to describe this dish by general manager Jeffrey Gaspar: “Big!”

Onolicious Rack of Ribs ($29.95)

“Sam is known for large portions and that’s what this is. That is Chef Sam right in front of you,” adds Gaspar.

Topping off the tenderly prepared ribs is the char-siu glaze, which combines hoisin sauce-with honey, shoyu, brown sugar and whatever seasonings that may be tempting Sam and his chefs on that particular day. And if the ribs aren’t enough, you’ll also receive sauteed vegetables and your choice of starch, such as Sam’s Kapakahi Mashed Potatoes, creamy mashed potatoes with garlic, corn and spinach.

In celebration of the restaurant’s 15th anniversary, Sam Choy’s is hosting a benefit June 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. Priced at $100 ($60 tax-deductible), enjoy an evening of food, drink and entertainment with proceeds benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii, with which Sam Choy’s has partnered for the past 15 years.
