Zpizza Freshens Up

Zpizza is know for its fresh, healthy approach to all manner of dining options, and that commitment to taste and quality doesn’t stop at the entrees. The pupus, aka the shareables, reflect the same goal of quality and taste. And when I say taste, I mean this stuff is GOOD!

Pizza may be the ultimate appetizer item. Cut into easily accessible slices, or Party Cut pieces in Zpizza parlance, the Italian pie is an appetizer, meal and, if you have the willpower to wait, a cool desert or late-night snack.

But it’s not the presentation that makes Zpizza special, it is the organic, hydroponic and proprietary items that turn what is often heavy, greasy slabs of dough and sauce into a light and healthy meal. Zpizza’s nearly infinite pizza menu offers 17 standards, five Rustica Pizzas and a build your own pie with a choice of three crusts, seven sauces and cheeses, and 32 toppings. The Mediterranean Rustica Pizza ($12.95) is a thin, crispy crust pizza with mozzarella, feta, artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, Greek olives, oregano and a slightly spicy pili pili sauce. Whether you’re a vegetarian or committed carnivore you’ll appreciate the abundance of flavors. Other popular pizzas, especially with the keiki, are the sausage and mushroom, and the pepperoni made with MSG-free pepperoni.

The Parmesan Flatbread Sticks, with garlic butter, Parmesan cheese and a homemade marinara sauce, and the Garlic Bread are two popular shareable items, but owner Cesar Llarneas says the Mediterranean Plate ($7.95) is the biggest seller. The dipping platter comes with gluten-free hummus, feta, Greek olives, roasted peppers, cucumber and zdough, is simply delicious. If you are like me and eat most of your hummus out of plastic containers, you’ll be in for a real treat.

“The organic ingredients are what really make the difference,” says Llarneas. “You just can’t compare it to other places.”

He’s got that right.
