A Joyous Christmas Feast at Jade Dynasty

The holidays are here and with them comes appreciation, gratitude, sharing, love and… food, of course.

Celebrating with food is part of all cultures, and on Christmas Day, Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant at Ala Moana Center is presenting its holiday favorites to the public with the Christmas Lunch Buffet.This buffet is exactly what may have coined the term feast.

A few items on the menu are Succulent Char Siu, Beef Chow Fun, Siu Mai (Pork Hash), Snow Crab Legs and Roast Duck.The buffet also will include Har Gau Shrimp Dumplings, cooked to perfection in a traditional manner that takes years to master.

“How we (in the Chinese culture) decide whether the dumplings are good is how transparent it looks from the outside. If it is too solid it doesn’t really taste good, but if it has that transparent look, you know it will be good, it is not easy to make this way,” says owner Sylvia Liang.

Another specialty on the buffet menu will be Shrimps with Chili & Pepper which starts with a quick fry then stir-fried with garlic, chili and other special seasons. On a sweeter note, guests also may enjoy the Fresh Mango Mochi, Snow Mountain Char Siu Bun and Spring Mountain Coconut Bun.

“Our Spring Mountain Bun doesn’t have any food coloring — all of the color comes from green tea and then the inside is filled with sweet coconut, almost like a haupia,” adds Liang.

First seating begins at 10 a.m., second seating at noon and the final seating will begin at 1:30 p.m. The Christmas Lunch Buffet is being served for $22.95 for adults, $18.50 for seniors (65 plus) and $11.50 for children (2 to 8 years old).

Most of the buffet menu items also are served on Jade Dynasty’s lunch and dinner menus.
