After an evening out, most hungry night owls will probably settle for any subpar eatery that happens to be open after midnight. But if you’re tired of all the usual late-night options, you’ll never have to settle again — Sushi King is open until 2 a.m. six nights a week to fuel your cravings for good food.

The South King Street restaurant continues to offer its meal deals until those early morning hours. The Midnight Special, served after 10:30 p.m., is the Jumbo Platter. Choose from options such as Salmon Cutlet on Rice, Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura on Rice or Chicken Teriyaki on Rice. All Jumbo Platters cost $11.45 and are served with soup, salad and California roll, cone sushi or spicy tuna.

“The late hours are very popular on the weekends,” says owner and manager Shu-Lee Kondo. “We have a lot of UH students who go out and then they get hungry and come back here.”

And if you’re not inclined to late night hours, don’t worry— Sushi King’s specials are offered throughout the day. The Jumbo Platter also is served as the Lunch Special.

The Early Bird Dinner ($15.95) is served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and includes options such as Chirashi and Sushi Combo and Sashimi, Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura and Chicken Teriyaki. All of these options come with an appetizer, rice and soup.

Other specials include Sushi King Special Curry Rice ($11.45), served with a choice of Ahi Katsu, Chicken Katsu, Pork Katsu, Salmon Katsu, Oyster Katsu or Ebi Fry, and comes with salad, house soup and pickles. For the Combination Lunch ($15.95), choose two dishes from a wide variety such as Mixed Seafood Sunomono, Chicken Karaage and Mini Udon. And for the Combination Dinner, choose two ($21.95) or three ($26.95) dishes from options such as White Fish Saute, Zaru Soba, Soy Fish and Kaki Fry.

And don’t forget about the sushi. Kondo says that some of the eatery’s most popular rolls are Dragon ($12.50), Sunshine ($12.50), Caterpillar Roll ($12.50) and Hawaiian ($13.50).

“Being here for 20 years at the same location, people feel comfortable,” says Kondo. “We call the customers by name because we know them and they always come back.”
