Steak & Shrimp Bowl

Located within Hilton Vacation Club The Modern Honolulu, The Grove Restaurant & Bar offers a variety of delicious dishes and unique drinks in a relaxing setting. The family-friendly venue boasts a menu with numerous options that are sure to please all palates. Whether they’re in the mood for a quick drink or a hearty meal, guests are invited to stop by and unwind under the property’s iconic tree grove.

We had the chance to speak to the hotel’s director of food and beverage Ben Bickford to learn more about The Grove Restaurant & Bar’s offerings.

DO: What makes The Grove Restaurant & Bar unique from other eateries?

BB: I would say the team here is what sets us apart from the rest. Most of the team here have been together since the opening of the property 15 years ago. The history they have with each other and the hotel is nothing short of amazing. They truly care for one another and with the care they have for the property, it reflects back to the overall guest experience.

DO: Can you tell us about some of your bestselling drinks and dishes?

BB: Perhaps the best-selling dish on our menu is our Beet and Burrata Salad ($20) with roasted beets, arugula, feta cheese, pistachio, Heirloom tomato, seasonal fruit with house-made macadamia nut vinaigrette. We are also now featuring a weekly bowl special and this week we are doing a New York Steak and Shrimp Bowl (call for cost) and a 6-ounce Grilled New York Steak with sautéed shrimp over rice and mac salad ($26). And lastly, our Fried Chicken Sandwich ($20) with fried crispy chicken breast, shredded kale, pickled red onion and Fresno peppers, and Boursin ranch on a toasted brioche bun. For beverages, a couple of the more popular cocktails on the pool deck are our Hennessey Sangria ($17) and Elderflower 75 ($16). The Hennessey Sangria includes Hennesey, triple sec, fresh juices, red wine and fresh fruit. The Elderflower 75 — a play off the French 75 — comes with St. Germaine elderflower liqueur, Hendricks Gin, lemon and topped off with prosecco.

DO: What’s your favorite dish on the menu and why?

BB: I am a big fan of our Fried Chicken Sandwich ($20). I think the flavors are delightful. The Boursin cheese folded into a housemade buttermilk ranch sauce, the pickled onions and peppers with fresh kale — what’s not to like about it?

DO: Do you have any specials going on this month?

BB: We are now featuring a weekly bowl special — new bowls to be announced every Friday. We will be doing a St. Patrick’s Day special. We will also be doing an Easter brunch buffet on Easter Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will be featuring hand-carved prime rib and fresh Dungeness crab legs along with many other delicious food options. Price will be $65 per adult; $45 for kids 4-12 years; free for kids 3 years and under. We will also be launching a new Friday night firework dinner buffet starting in March as well.

DO: What’s a popular item on the kids’ menu?

BB: The kids Chicken Tenders and Mac N Cheese are the most popular items on our kids’ menu. Both are $10.

DO: What’s in store for The Grove Restaurant & Bar in 2024?

BB: New Friday nights firework dinner buffet starting in March. We are also look ing to launch a luau dinner later this spring, which we would like to feature monthly to start, and if it picks up good traction from our local community, we would do weekly dinners. We are working a new spring food menu. Lots in store for 2024, so keep us on your dial and stay tuned.

DO: What would you say to encourage people to dine here?

BB: We would say that for a while The Grove has stayed a bit stagnant up until this last year. We made a lot of changes in 2023 and officially became a Hilton Vacation Club, being one of the big changes. The changes we have made have reignited the spark of energy among the team members here and there is now lots of excitement for what our future holds. We would say to our local community and our visiting guests, don’t forget about us here. We are continuously growing and striving for perfection — new fresh ideas translating to new fresh food and beverage options. New events open to the public. We are excited for (what) 2024 is going to bring The Grove and we want our community to be excited with us.
