Serving gourmet plate lunches since 2013, Kau Kau Grill offers takeout dishes for customers on the go. From slow-cooked, grilled ribs doused in a housemade barbecue sauce to sautéed garlic shrimp and fresh, spicy ahi poke with inamona, ginger and shoyu, this restaurant serves up a variety of mouthwatering local favorites. The good food and friendly service welcome customers and keep bringing them back.

Despite being a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant, Kau Kau Grill surprises customers with its Ora King Salmon Dynamite ($22, pictured).

Kau Kau Grill is located on Mapunapuna Street. It is recommended to order by phone or online at kaukaugrill.com, since there is limited parking.

WHICH SIDE DISH?

Choose between mac or spinach salad to complement your meaty entrée. And, no local plate lunch is complete without rice.

GET SAUCED

The pan-seared salmon is drizzled with sweet Thai chile and unagi sauce to balance out of the flavors, and then sprinkled with furikake.

ALL HAIL SALMON

Ora king salmon hails from New Zealand. Known for its high quality and excellent flavors, it’s commonly used in sushi and sashimi.

COOKED TO PERFECTION

To enhance and bring out the salmon’s natural flavors, the aburi cooking technique is used, which involves torching with high heat.
