Aiming to provide authentic Japanese bentos to the people of Hawaii, Obento Rinka provides a variety of grab-and-go-style bentos. Experienced kappo chefs from Japan take special care in curating the menu, ingredients and even the containers, putting in the extra time to ensure Japanese authenticity.
Get a well-rounded meal with the Salmon Nori Bento ($14.50), which includes grilled sockeye salmon, chicken karaage, fried chikuwa with seaweed flakes, and pork hash. The bento also has multiple side dishes of dashimaki egg, hijiki, spinach with sesame sauce, shiraae, and kinpira gobo (burdock root).
The Stir-fried Pork and Vegetable with Miso Bento ($13.75) boasts a mix of unique flavors with stir-fried pork alongside eggplant, green bell pepper and onion and seasoned with sweet Chinese miso. Side dishes include namasu, tofu nugget, dashimaki-egg, shiraae and spinach with sesame sauce.
For a larger meal, try the Makunouchi Bento ($18), which features an elegant container divided into four squares: rice with yukari-furikake; a tempura assortment of shrimp, chikuwa, kakiage, eggplant and shishito pepper; beef steak and grilled sockeye salmon; and side dishes of namasu, tofu nugget, fish cake, dashimaki egg and spinach with sesame sauce.
The shop is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and closed on Sundays and federal holidays. Customers who want a particular bento may place an order in advance (not the day of). The shop does deliveries for large orders for an additional fee.
