A look at some truly laudable libations

For the past five years or so, Royal Hawaii Spirits Distillery has been whipping up amazing gins, rums, vodkas and whiskys — shochu and soju, too! — much to the delight of spirits-lovers all of the world.

From tropical fruit tones to European-style liqueurs, there’s something for all palates to enjoy.

And, now is the time to snag a bottle — or two, or three — to stock up at home, or grab some for the perfect holiday gift this Christmas.

It’s literally award-winning stuff.

The Pineapple Spirit, for example, has won numerous accolades, including silvers at the 2019 Global Vegas Awards, 2020 John Barleycorn Awards, 2020 Finger Lakes Spirit International Competition NY, and USA Spirit Ratings International Spirit Competition by Beverage Trade Network. It has also won gold at the 2020 Melbourne Australia International Spirit Competition, among other notable achievements.

“I love to experiment with Hawaii tropical flavors, aromas and ingredients, and translate them into unique, one-of-a-kind adult beverages that are special enough to serve for any life-celebrating occasions such as birthdays, weddings, baby luaus and anniversaries,” shares master distiller and founder Karel Kon.

While perfect for traditional libation lovers, RHS Distillery also has on its roster some truly unique blends. It came out with the Ahi Tuna Fish Flavored Vodka (which won bronze at the 2020 Bartenders Awards International Competition) that features tuna fresh from the auction, as well as a Bacon Vodka that’s savory and satisfying.

In addition, Kon recently launched a Bounty Vodka made from breadfruit. It’s the first of its kind in Hawaii. And, more is coming by the end of the year, he teases.
