Step Up to the Plate

A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: SOFTSHELL CRAB ROLL ($5.95)

Crab is a delicacy all around the world and the nation will celebrate National Crab Meat Day March 9. What better way to celebrate than to dive right into some of the state’s tastiest seafood at Genki Sushi? Head to your closest Genki Sushi and try its Softshell Crab Tempura, Softshell Crab Roll or both!

Genki Sushi boasts eight locations on Oahu Kapahulu, Ward Center, Ala Moana Center, Ewa Town Center, Kaneohe, Kapolei Commons, Pearlridge Center Uptown and Waikele Center — you won’t have to go too far to find your Japanese favorites.

The restaurant’s origins started with Fumio Saito in 1968. At just 24 years old, the Japanese sushi chef pioneered the concept of “kaiten sushi,” using conveyor belts to serve sushi quickly, which is just one of the things that Genki Sushi is famous for today. Additionally, it’s known for delectable sushi platters, tasty bentos and fast, quality service.

In honor of all things crab, some other crab-filled menu items include Spicy Imitation Crab Gunkan, Imitation Crab Gunkan and Imitation Crab Ebi Fry Roll.

ROLL IT UP

This delight consists of softshell crab that’s battered in tempura, fried and cut into three pieces. Wrapped in sushi rice, it’s rolled in with nori, sliced cucumber, kaiware sprouts, carrots, red leaf lettuce, sesame seeds and special sauce.

NATIONAL CRAB MEAT DAY

Crustacean lovers can rejoice with one of Genki Sushi’s softshell crab dishes, snap a photo and #NationalCrabMeatDay to post on your social media.

SOFTSHELL CRAB TEMPURA

If you’re not feeling sushi, that’s OK! This tasty version is also served up tempura-style and served over lettuce ($5.95).
