Here at Dining Out, it is our duty to keep readers up to date with the latest foodie-happenings and that includes all the greatest cuisine holidays. Helping to celebrate the next sweet day is Napoleon’s Bakery for National Cream Filled Donut Day on Saturday, Sept. 14.

As most may know by now, the bakery that is located within Zippy’s Restaurants across the state cooks up a plethora of mesmerizing baked goods from cookies and cakes to do-nuts and pastries — and its supply of cream filled donuts is definitely of no shortage.

A sure crowd-pleaser to share or take for yourself are the bakery’s malasadas, which are made to order so they are hot and fresh for excited appetites. In addition to the usual fried Portuguese donut with no filling, they also come filled with custard, haupia or chocolate custard.

For a limited time, diners can order specially flavored filled donuts during September and October. The first, Banana Bread Donut is a yeast donut made with fresh banana puree mixed in the dough. Then, it is prepared into a light fluffiness before being fried, topped with a banana-yellow vanilla glaze and finished with a sprinkle of chocolate.

The second limited-time item is Boston Cream Pie Donut, which is filled with homemade vanilla custard, then topped with chocolate glaze and finished with traditional white stripes.

Other taste bud pleasers awaiting customer cravings include Napoleon’s MochiZada which combines two favorites: mochi and malasada. They are available at all Zippy’s locations and come sugar coated or glazed.
