Kalapawai Cafe & Deli has quite a bustling fall season rolling out at its locations on both the windward and west sides of Oahu. For example, the restaurant will participate in Blocktoberfest Sept. 28 in Kailua and host a complimentary wine tasting at its Kapolei site at 711 Kamokila Blvd. at 4 p.m. Sept. 29.
This wine tasting will coincide with the Kapolei eatery’s fall menu debut, which includes exciting items such as Grilled Yam Salad ($14). Operations manager Kat Moon explains that the salad also includes delec-table roasted beets and dried cranberries. It has zesty blue cheese, frisee and crunchy pecans along with maple-thyme vinaigrette.
“This also coincides with our three-year anniversary of the Kapolei location on Oct. 1,” Moon shares.
Kalapawai’s chef Jason Iwane commenced serving his fall menu in Kailua on Sept. 8 and will soon start it up in Kapolei as well on Sept. 29.
In addition to the Grilled Yam Salad, Moon says that the menu includes a couple of classics from prior years. One of these fan favorites is the Braised Pork and Italian Sausage Ragu ($24). The dish also features Hamakua mushrooms and pancetta and is served over pappardelle with pecorino. Another returning menu item is the Pumpkin Bisque served with fromager d’Affinois and Curried Apple Chutney in a toasted ciabatta sandwich ($16).
Kalapawai Cafe & Deli offers a well-rounded menu that includes nightly Chef’s Seafood and Chef’s Daily Meat selections, chicken, pork and steak dishes, along with a number of vegetarian and vegan options.
TASTE OF THE ‘AINA’
Besides Grilled Yam Salad, another new item on the fall menu is the Da Aina Burger ($16). It focuses on a meatless grilled Beyond Burger, seasoned with the restaurant’s Bodacious blend. It’s served with arugula, avocado, red onions and housemade spiced tomato jam on a brioche bun with fries.
