Customers certainly get a rise out of the delicious products at the European-style bakery Fendu Boulangerie located at Manoa Marketplace.

Niel Koep, chef and owner, explains he started the bakery in 2009 after working more than 18 years as an executive pastry chef at resorts on the island of Lanai.

“I always wanted my own business as far back as I can remember,” recalls Koep.

When his window of opportunity opened on Oahu, he eagerly took the plunge.

Koep emphasizes that he uses the highest quality, all-natural ingredients in his products, which include breads, sandwiches, rustic gourmet pizzas, desserts, croissants, Danish pastries, scones and more.

Best sellers include Chicken Curry Sandwich and Basil Pesto Panini. Popular pizzas are Kiawe Smoked Chicken Pizza and Vegetarian Pizza. Top sellers in the dessert category lineup are Calamansi Tart and Lilikoi Cheesecake.

The bakery constantly is offering daily specials to give customers a tasty variety and keep them coming back for more.

SUNDAY FUNDAY

Buckwheat Fig Bread ($5.99) is a special bread served on Sundays at Fendu Boulangerie. This rustic loaf features ingredients such as buckwheat flour, whole-wheat flour and dried chopped black figs. Another Sunday special is Bossola ($8.75), an Italian sweet bread. It takes a lengthy process of at least 24 hours to make Bossola. This very buttery delightful treat has a denser texture than Hawaiian sweet bread.
