A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: 35TH ANNIVERSARY BUFFET SPECIAL

Toru Makino, owner of Makino Waikiki — formerly Crab House Makino — wants to say thank you to the restaurant’s loyal customers over the past 35 years. Having successfully opened various eateries on the island, Makino now focuses on Makino Waikiki, which is located on Ala Moana Boulevard and offers all-you-caneat buffets for lunch and dinner.

To celebrate, the owner — who often can be found diligently working alongside Makino Waikiki’s chefs and staff — is offering a 35th Anniversary Buffet Special, which will run until Dec. 31 (excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, which will have a different set price).

The special includes 50 percent off the regular lunch buffet price ($19.98 regular Monday-Friday; $20.98 regular Saturday-Sunday) and $10 off the dinner buffet price ($35.98 regular Monday-Friday; $36.98 Saturday-Sunday) for kamaaina, when they bring in the Dining Out coupon found on page 16 and valid ID.

During lunchtime, patrons can indulge in the all-you-can-eat splendor of Makino Waikiki’s sushi bar, udon/ramen station, tableside seafood hot pot and lineup of hot-food items. The latter includes crispy shrimp and vegetable tempura, as well as tonkatsu and garlic ahi.

For dinner, diners are presented with a similar selection as the lunch buffet — and then some. (Think mounds of snow crab legs, live lobster, oysters on the half shell, beef steak teppanyaki and more!)

Sushi selections

The sushi bar is open for lunch and dinner, and showcases a lineup of nigiri — including the ever-popular unagi — and colorful rolls, such as the California roll topped with avocado or tobiko.

The buffet is your oyster

The seafood feast continues during dinnertime with slurp-worthy oysters on the half shell.

Let it snow!

Load your plate with endless snow crab legs or lobster during dinner only — but make sure not to waste food by taking too much in one round. Remember, you can always go back for more!

Bring on the sizzle!

Fire up the teppanyaki grill, as the dinner buffet offers beautiful cuts of beef steak, grilled perfectly to your liking.

Reminder:

The 35th Anniversary Buffet Special will end Dec. 31, and will not be included Christmas Eve and Christmas Day — the set buffet price for these two days will be $18.98 for lunch and $27.98 for dinner.
