When it comes to delectable comfort food and plate-lunch perfection, Laverne’s Hawaiian and Local Style Food has the recipes down.
The eatery has been a local favorite since 2000 with its food truck, and now, a sit-down location at Newtown Driving Range in Aiea.
Laverne’s keeps customers coming with a core menu featuring classic Hawaiian and local cuisine, as well as specials that are churned out on a regular basis.
Along with new items, general manager Travis Paulo shares that the eatery is even thinking about adding TVs to its outside dining area. This way, customers will be able to grab a plate lunch and watch their favorite teams, or opt to watch golfers perfect their swing at the driving range.
Embrace the “kanak attack” with Kanaka Plate ($17.95) or Kanaka Nachos ($10). Both plates are jam-packed with Hawaiian-food favorites. The plate features two scoops of rice with kalua pig, chicken long rice, squid luau, lau lau, lomi salmon and haupia. As for the nachos, layers of tortilla chips are topped with smoked meat, kalua pig, squid luau and lomi salmon.
You also can find fun, creative dishes, such as Guavalicious Chicken ($9 regular, $7.50 mini), which features marinated teriyaki chicken that’s put on the grill, then glazed with a house-made guava jam. There’s also Smoked Meat Fried Noodles ($9), which includes a hefty serving of fried noodles topped with house-made smoked meat, fishcake and green onions. And don’t forget about Garlic Fries with Bacon and Shredded Cheese ($7.95), showcasing a meld of seasoned fries with parsley, garlic-mayo sauce, bacon bits and shredded cheese — perfect for sharing with friends.
With the holiday season approaching, Laverne’s also offers delightful desserts, such as Sugar Daddy Pumpkin Pie ($4), Pineapple Upside Down Cake ($4.95) and Pumpkin Crunch (coming soon).
