LET’S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: Adobo Fried Rice ($10.50 regular, $8.50 small)

With all the recent buzz surrounding the drove of new restaurants opening in Hawaii, it’s easy to put your old favorites on the back burner. But after the hype of the latest food trend dies down, you’ll soon return to the mom-and-pop establishments that hold a special place in your heart.

Nothing satisfies quite like the quality, love and homey appeal that are packed into the comfort foods from those beloved restaurants. One such “Old Faithful” is Asahi Grill on Ward Avenue. The local- and Asian-inspired eatery serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner every day with rotating daily specials.

Come in from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. and order the Early Bird Morning Special, which is a Mini Island Breakfast for only $5.50, and consider a side of Banana Hotcakes or scrumptious Adobo Fried Rice.

Aside from breakfast food, Asahi Grill offers local faves such as Chop Steak, Steamed Fish Fillet, Loco Moco, Chicken Katsu Curry and Spicy Ahi Don.

For a taste of Japan, order from the teishoku list, combining protein options such as Butterfish and Salmon for the ultimate meal. And, who could forget Our “Famous” Oxtail Soup, which has indeed put Asahi Grill on the map. For something new, consider ordering Oxtail Ramen, which uses the same tasty broth and fixings, but with slurp-worthy noodles added to the mix.
