A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: CHICKEN KATSU BENTO: $6.99

Fulfill all sushi cravings at Kozo Sushi, a beloved eatery that traces its roots to Osaka, Japan. Fast-forward more than 40 years later, and Kozo Sushi has grown to include a slew of convenient locations across Oahu, and has established itself as a front-runner of fast-food sushi chains.

Nowadays, while sushi continues to be a top-seller, Kozo Sushi also offers a selection of bentos on its menu, much to the delight of restaurant fanatics.

Tender pieces of chicken katsu lie on a bed of warm brown or white rice. A crispy deep-fried exterior and moist and meaty interior are packed into each and every bite.

Kozo Sushi brings its signature element, sushi, to the bento, with two pieces of California Maki, one piece of Inari and two pieces of Shinko Maki.

A savory katsu sauce is drizzled over the chicken and brings a much anticipated burst of flavor to the dish. Kozo Sushi keeps the details of the recipe highly under wraps, but does reveal that the concoction consists of a blend of different sauces.

A small salad completes the bento. The vegetable medley of lettuce, tomato and cucumber cleanses the palate after a hearty meal.

Last year, Kozo Sushi expanded its menu to include bentos. Chicken Katsu holds its place as the eatery’s best-selling bento, however, other options include Teriyaki Chicken, Fried Chicken and Ebi (shrimp) Fry.
