Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant offers regal flavors without the royal price tag.

Now through the month of June, two specials not offered on the menu are 50 percent off with the purchase of any other two entrees.

Tee Par Duck ($21 with the promotion, $42 regular price) must be ordered at least one day in advance because of the preparation that takes place. Unlike other roast duck, Tee Par Duck is made with different ingredients, which complete the marinade. “With the roast duck, we roast the whole duck, we don’t open it,” explains owner Calvin Wong of the cooking process. “With the Tee Par Duck, we open it completely and marinate the duck.”

This process allows for a duck with full-bodied flavors. Depending on the size of the duck, it can take anywhere from 35 to 40 minutes to roast.

Wong says Tee Par Duck can feed anywhere from five to 10 people.

The second special is Chicken Won Ton Soup and Casserole ($15 with the promotion, $30 regular price). A rich chicken broth is combined with half a chicken and 10 pieces of won ton — also making it a good dish to share around the table with friends or family members.

Royal Garden, which has been open for more than 28 years at its Ala Moana Hotel location, continues to pride itself on its traditional offerings.

“It is traditional Cantonese food, Hong Kong-style,” says Wong.
