Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, everyone is stopping at Kissaten Coffee Bar for more than just a burst of caffeine. The one-year-old hot spot also offers American comfort food with a sophisticated twist, as well as international flavors sprinkled throughout its three menus.

Inspired by Japanese-style cafes, also known as kissaten, senior partner Neysa Taba says the restaurant draws in every type of customer from building residents, retirees, families and business professionals to students in high school, college and graduate school. Even the “after-bar” crowd enjoys the eatery’s ramen and pho at 2 a.m.

“We always have someone in here. It’s rare if it’s totally empty,” says Taba.

Regardless of the customer, everyone loves Truffle Mac and Cheese ($10). Pieces of chicken breast, penne pasta and a salty crunch of bacon lar-dons (bits) marvelously combine with the kitchen’s silky aged Cheddar sauce. Torched bread crumbs and a delicate touch of truffle oil enrich this creamy sensation.

Another American favorite is The Wedge Salad ($7), which includes iceberg lettuce, bacon lardons, tomatoes, herbs and croutons. The cafe’s luscious blue cheese dressing, though, makes this brightly colored — and flavored — salad absolutely craveable.

“Once people try it, they love it,” says Taba.

With breakfast, lunch and dinner or late-night dining, not to mention a great brew, there’s something for everyone at Kissaten.
