Soothing souls with oishii bowls

Oyako Saimin ($12.85)

The weather has certainly been extra chilly lately and because of that Sekiya’s Restaurant & Delicatessen is bringing attention to its warming options — and there are plenty to enjoy. First, slurp up a tasty good time with Nabeyaki ($15.25), which comes out hotpot-style filled with favorites including watercress, egg, fishcake, shrimp tempura, chicken and shiitake mushroom. It’s a true delight right down to the soul.

Another delectable option Sekiya’s customers will surely enjoy is Oyako Saimin ($12.85) that comes with saimin and glass noodles. An egg is scrambled and then spread atop the steaming hot bowl of noodles, soup and mushrooms so that by the time it gets out to the table, the egg is cooked and ready to dig into. The Oyako can also be ordered donburi-style with rice instead of saimin and soup.

Lastly, Tsukimi ($10.35) is fitting for those who are looking for a little bit of tradition. This simple yet flavorful creation tops saimin noodles with fishcake, green onions, a poached egg and nori strips.

Chef Ben Hara notes that all three of these comforting bowls are based with the house dashi soup and can be made with any choice of noodle the customer prefers.

Check out these soul-soothing bites and more, and turn up the heat during the long-lasting cool weather at Sekiya’s. Plus, seniors can also take advantage of a 10-percent discount on Mondays when dining in.
