The city of Los Angeles takes its coffee game very serious as it aims to caffeinate its population of nearly four million people. Whether hot or cold, simple or extra, this city has got just the right cup of joe for your taste buds or Instagram — but mostly Instagram.
Here are a few stops to check out that will satisfy the palates of lovers of the classic brews to those looking for something new.
1. Nimbus Coffee

As “a place for wizards, witches and muggles alike to meet for coffee and culture,” Nimbus Coffee in Downtown LA is a dream come true for Harry Potter fans and for those who live for the hype of eccentric experiences. Its menu is filled with theme-related beverages like Blueberry PolyJuice and Watermelon Weasley under the “Giggle Waters” portion of the menu. Classics are also found here from pour over coffee to espresso.
For something light yet still unique, order the Notorious Black. This charcoal-activated rosemary latte (pictured) is a detoxifying drink that’s also a pleasant tickle to taste buds. To seal the deal it is topped with a high mound of charcoal whipped cream.
Additionally, visitors to this cafe can get their hands on something from the “Snacks Conjured” selection that includes Beatrix Lestrange Toast (BLT), Dark Arts Poptart and more. The interior features grand decor that was special-ordered straight from the “Wizarding World”— check it out for a one-of-a-kind experience.

2. Intelligentsia
3922 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles
(also other locations nationwide)

This minimalistic LA coffee shop in Silver Lake presents a simple vibe to customers and a chill retreat to take a break from its bustling surroundings. While Intelligentsia is a nationwide chain that started in Chicago, Illinois, it found its way to the West Coast with four locations in or near the City of Angels — and to each location its own personality. The Hollywood locale boasts a contemporary-sleek vibe while Venice is a “lofty, open space” to match its beachy surroundings. Lastly, the Pasedena Coffeebar presents a large open space with an industrial theme and exposed brick.
Whatever the location, the folks at Intelligentsia recommend sipping on the Black Cat Espresso, which pushes the boundaries of flavor thanks to intensive lot sourcing and close collaboration with partner farmers or producers, according to account coordinator Kara Dempsey. “Supreme balance, hints of dark chocolate, black cherry, brown sugar and a wonderful sweetness make this a classic,” she adds.

The Butcher, The Baker & The Cappuccino Maker Cafe, also simply known as BBCM to the regulars, is another must when visiting LA thanks to its crafty cappuccino art. The cups of espresso beverages here are sealed with a colorful and grand tie-dye-like design, which floats on the top of the drink. While the lines can get long here, many agree it is worth the wait, especially to get a snapshot for “The Gram.” To check out these tasty works of art check out BBCM’s Insta-gram @bbcmcafe.
