You could say it’s the original health food. Light yet satisfying, Japanese food is always a great choice for those of us who try to watch what we eat.
Sekiya’s Restaurant and Delicatessen in Kaimuki is the place for great local-style Japanese food — and has been for decades. Its extensive menu makes it easy to please any hungry diner, even if you choose to go meatless. No matter how many different palates are in your party, everyone can find something on the menu to satisfy their appetite — carnivore or not.
So, veggie lovers, bring along your friends, family — and definitely your appetite — and get those chopsticks ready for Vegetable Stir-fry with tofu ($11.65). A complete meal, it’s a healthy combination of tofu, Chinese peas, zucchini and shiitake mushrooms served with rice, miso soup, tsukemoto and Japanese tea.
“It’s really kind of popular,” says owner Joy Morihara. “People do order that a lot.”
