Sekiya’s Spotlights New Offerings

Generations of Oahu diners have been attracted to Sekiya’s Restaurant & Delicatessen because of its simple and tasty menu. There is also something comforting about recipes that have been handed down since 1935, when Taisuke and Katsuko Sekiya opened their first establishment. It gets even better when old favorites are paired with new items geared toward the next generation of eaters.

Mahi Mahi Tempura ($12.95) was a longtime favorite that had disappeared from the menu. However, customer demand brought it back. Now, the mahi mahi joins two new menu items that debut this week. The fish is lightly breaded and deep-fried, served with special dipping sauce composed of shoyu, sugar, homemade dashi and shredded daikon.

Curry is next on the list, and never goes out of style — and neither will Sekiya’s Beef Curry. Priced at $9.50, this flavorful and filling dish showcases slow-cooked, tender beef (or chicken) smothered in a rich curry sauce — a concoction of curry powder, pepper and a variety of other secret spices. It is, as the staff will tell you, a truly addictive blend of flavors that will satisfy even the most discerning palate. Don’t believe them? Give Beef Curry a try.

Sekiya’s also is excited to introduce Chicken Oriental Salad ($6.50) to its patrons. A great choice for those seeking a lighter lunch or dinner option, the salad features romaine lettuce, carrots, cucumber, freshly made crispy won-ton chips, morsels of Mandarin orange and smoky yakitori-style chicken. The dressing, a mix of shoyu, ginger, vinegar, sugar and sesame oil, blends sweet and salty flavors to highlight the fresh salad. If chicken isn’t your thing, Sekiya’s also offers beef and tofu salads for you to try.

Are you a senior? Good news if you are, as Sekiya’s now offers a 10 percent discount Mondays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for diners ages 65 years old and over.
