Since 1978, Tanaka of Tokyo has served outstanding seafood and the best-of-the-best beef with flair. The family-owned-and-operated business specializes in traditional Japanese performance teppanyaki with a local Hawaii twist.
The eatery’s commitment to presenting high-quality food in a fun, friendly atmosphere has accumulated a number of accolades, including Best Teppanyaki Steakhouse by Honolulu Star-Advertiser for the 12th consecutive year.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of all our loyal patrons, our business partners, the local community and our hardworking, dedicated management and staff,” says executive vice president and chief financial officer Alison “Bo” Tanaka.
Whether dining in the recently refreshed Ala Moana Center location with famed head chef Joe Kim or at its two Waikiki locations, Tanaka of Tokyo’s fresh food skillfully prepared on tabletop grills delights diners.
Bo’s go-to meal is the Seafood Combination ($63.50).
“You get an 8-ounce portion of salmon, cold-water lobster tail and scallops,” she says. “Our salmon is fantastic when it is prepared on the teppanyaki grill.”
The Filet and Shrimp ($50.75) is a bestseller and features a 5-ounce filet with seven pieces of butter-lemon sauteed shrimp.
For melt-in-your-mouth, buttery steak, select the Wagyu Striploin ($81.50). Or upgrade any premium entree to an 8-ounce wagyu steak for $30.
Every Tanaka of Tokyo meal includes housemade salad, miso soup, grilled shrimp, vegetables, rice, green tea and ice cream from Dave’s Ice Cream.
An add-on order of its famous Fried Rice ($5.75) is suggested to savor the memorable meal with the talented chefs.
Through the end of August, the Ala Moana location is offering a special menu to celebrate the center’s 65th anniversary. The Ala Moana 65th Anniversary Special ($65) features sauteed scallops, teriyaki chicken and an 8-ounce certified Angus beef rib-eye.
