Mother’s Day is right around the corner (May 8), and what better way to honor yours than with a delightful and delicious meal. Gyotaku, which has several locations on the island in Pearl City, South King Street and Niu Valley, is offering a Mother’s Day Bento ($33.95), which will be available for both dine-in and takeout on May 7 and May 8.
It boasts misoyaki butterfish, chicken karaage, two pieces of shrimp tenpura with assorted vegetable tenpura, ahi poke roll, cone sushi, cabbage tsukemono, takuwan kimchi and is served with salad.
“(It) is a collection of some of our most popular menu items in bento format,” says Tom Jones, president of Gyotaku Japanese restaurants. “It’s easy to order and can be served quickly on the busiest and most important day of the year.”
Jones recommends guests making reservations or ordering ahead of time for this offer to ensure the restaurant can accommodate.
“In the past we’ve had to stop taking orders at some of our restaurants due to high demand,” he adds.
After enjoying a savory meal, mothers can be treated even more to the establishment’s sweet, indulgent Strawberry Pie ($6.50), which is a special holiday dessert only served on Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. It consists of a layer of strawberry chiffon topped with strawberry cream and whipped cream on top of a graham cracker crust.
“It’s a large portion but light, fluffy, not too sweet and a delight to eat,” says Jones.
