Enjoy date night steaks at home

For future date night ideas, look to Hy’s Steak House. Guests can now enjoy the restaurant’s signature steaks, all in the comfort of their home, thanks to a stellar takeout menu.

Like many other restaurants, Hy’s had to make changes during the pandemic.

“As an establishment that never did takeout pre-COVID, adapting to the new norm was definitely a challenge,” says Taro Kurobe, assistant general manager and wine director. “Through trial and error, we were able to create a program where our guests can enjoy our signature steaks at home.”

One of the biggest challenges was figuring out the best way to reheat meals.

“We created step-by-step heating instructions for our dinner sets using conventional ovens and/or stove top pans. The instructions will guide you to your desired steak temperature,” says Kurobe. (Note: Don’t use microwaves! It can overcook steaks.)

On the takeout menu is the 24-ounce Dry-Aged Bone-In Ribeye ($90), served with mashed potatoes and a seasonable vegetable medley. Another popular choice is the Boozy Burger Set for Two ($99), which includes two housemade Prime akaushi beef patties, served with double-smoked bacon, white cheddar, bacon-tomato jam, garlic herb aioli, butter lettuce, tomato and brioche buns. Everything is individually wrapped to assemble according to your taste.

“You’ll also receive our kiawe charcoal to recreate the Hy’s signature smokey flavor many have come to know and love,” says Kurobe, who also is an advanced sommelier.

The burger set is paired with Hy’s housemade potato chips and your choice of a sommelier-selected wine.

The Gold Menu, Four-Course Set ($100) starts with cheese biscuits and pan-seared scallops with prosciutto-wrapped asparagus and a mixed green salad. The entrée is a kiawe-broiled USDA Prime filet mignon with truffle demi-glace, prepared to the temperature of your choice, and served with garlic mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley. Finish off with a New York-style cheesecake.

“At Hy’s, we’re committed to upholding the highest standard for the safety of our guests and most importantly our employees,” says Kurobe. “We are here to assist our guests and deliver quality food and hospitality for both dine-in and takeout.”
