Sweet surprises are in store

Churro Fries ($6.99)

Big City Diner is making big marks in Hawaii’s restaurant and entertainment scene, pulling out all the major stops to elevate customer experiences to the best they can be. In addition to taste bud-blowing creations, diners can also enjoy a slew of specials and events, weekly and on holidays.

Keep an eye out for upcoming holiday specials like a Good Friday menu, geared toward those who observe Lent, or even for people who just want to indulge in special meals.

Other happenings include good times and dishes for Administrative Professionals’ Day; and drink and food offerings for the Final Four basketball championships on April 8, featuring $4 Corona bottles and Miller Lite pints, plus half-off pupus.

Mama’s Bread Pudding Ala Mode ($9.49)

Finally, bring your A-game for Trivia Night every Sunday at the Windward Mall location, and then every Monday at Ward Village and Pearlridge. Check-in is at 5:30 p.m. and games kick off at 6.

Don’t forget about dessert that can be enjoyed at any time of the day with Mama’s Breakfast Bread Pudding ($8.99), or Mama’s Bread Pudding ($6.49) for lunch or dinner. The bread pudding is homemade daily, and is drizzled in haupia cream sauce, sprinkled with Big Island macadamia nuts, all accompanied by an inviting mountain of whipped cream. It can also be served with link sausage and bacon. Then, for an extra $3 make it a la mode with vanilla or chocolate scoops of Dave’s Ice Cream.

Speaking of food, take it to go — in large amounts — with Big City’s catering service. Whether pickup or delivery, owner Lane Muraoka says the company is very flexible with customer needs. Servers and other perks also are available for your special occasions, such as graduation parties.

THE SECRET’S OUT WITH #OFFTHEMENU

Owner of Big City Diner, Lane Muraoka, shares a pleasing delight on the “secret menu.” In other words, don’t expect to find this on the printed version, but do expect to indulge in deliciousness when you order the Churro Fries ($6.99). Cuts of skin-on potato fries, tossed in cinnamon and cane sugar, are finely dressed in salted caramel and chocolate sauces. For the grand finale, be sure to take each piece for a dip into the accompanying whipped cream. So, the next time you hop on “The Gram” when you’re at Big City, don’t forget to post your sweet new discovery.
