Local diners have come to know Hy’s Steak House as the go-to destination for sensational steak and world-class service within an incredible ambience.
Guests will be thrilled to learn that Hy’s Steak House now offers on- and off-site catering for special occasions and intimate gatherings, whether it’s a birthday party, business function or anniversary.
Patrons can enjoy the “affordable luxury” served up in-house at the restaurant or at one’s desired celebration site with the same stellar value, service and cuisine that Hy’s is recognized for.
Hy’s Steak House executive chef Justin Inagaki and his heart-of-the-house team have created an array of entrees, appetizers, side dishes and, of course, desserts that are sure to produce a memorable experience. The catering venture was launched by Hy’s Steak House last year and includes the option to host events at the restaurant, whether guests choose plated options and buffet-style offerings, or opt to utilize the entire restaurant by enjoying multiple dining and beverage stations.
The Hy’s team will work with clients to integrate themes — the restaurant put together a German-themed party late last year — and incorporate personalized menu options with the signature favorites Hy’s is known for.
“Our main goal is to bring the Hy’s experience to you, with everything from tuxedo-clad servers to award-winning wine offerings,” Inagaki says. “We want to put our best foot forward and give you the finest experience and event possible.”
When building a specialized catering menu, guests may choose from Hy’s favorites including rack of lamb, broiled steaks, tableside Caesar salad and the spectacular Seasonal Flambe selections (menu prices vary depending on event and customizations). Hy’s Signature Slider made with USDA Prime “Never-Ever” beef is a popular appetizer choice, as well as fresh seafood from the Raw Bar including Shrimp Cocktail and Fresh Oysters accompanied by mignonette (a zesty sauce) and seasonal toppings. Another popular hors d’oeuvre is House Cured King Salmon served on a cucumber disc with yuzu creme fraiche and ikura (red caviar).
“Our smaller bites are really popular. Our cuisine is classical, and ‘old-school’ from a simple and elegant perspective,” Inagaki says. “We are contemporary and innovative, and progressive when it comes to creating new dishes, while also staying true to the Hy’s experience. Catering pushes me because we’re not in a cookie-cutter environment, every off-site catering project is different — my goal is to never duplicate a menu. There may be some dishes that we have perfected, but each menu is tailored for the specific experience.”
At last week’s Sony Open at Waialae Country Club, Hy’s Steak House actually crafted two sets of menus for tournament attendees during the four-day event. Gourmet Events Hawaii often partners with Hy’s to host events, including store openings and company appreciation dinners.
“Of course we’re Hy’s Steak House, but we want to create a flexible win-win situation so our guests are happy, whether it’s farm-to-table or seafood centric — it’s all about that memorable experience,” Inagaki says. “We try to bring that special occasion experience that guests have come to recognize in the restaurant to each event, and couple the cuisine with excellent service.”
Depending on the event, a minimum of a month’s notice is necessary for the Hy’s team, while a minimum of three months lead time is ideal (depending on the scale of the event) so that menu tastings can be arranged and logistics worked out.
