Restaurant visitors eat down memory lane

Nothing quite beats the feeling when experiencing a moment of nostalgia. Be it initiated by a fragrance, taste or being in a certain setting, it’s a snippet in time that people try to hold onto for as long as it can last.

Pagoda Floating Restaurant understands this and makes it a part of the restaurant’s daily experience from its tastes to ambiance.

“When people come here, we want them to think ‘oh, this is just like my grandma’s cooking,'” explains John Teruya, general manager.

Guests are often enthralled and immersed into Pagoda’s unique and charming atmosphere, as the restaurant features koi ponds, sparkling waterfalls, outstretched private bungalows and an abundance of outdoor greenery.

When Dining Out stopped into Pagoda, there was a visiting family outside admiring the large, pretty fishes that roamed the ponds. That’s when Teruya approached them with mini containers of fish food for the keiki to feed the swimmers with, and off they went to excitedly do just that.

Prime Rib Sandwich ($15.45)

“You can’t find this kind of atmosphere anywhere,” he shares. “It’s all about the experience. Food you can get anywhere.”

Bring the family and friends down to the special establishment and enjoy this quaint, nostalgic setting for yourself accompanied with filling, mouthwatering bites that are just how “grams used to make.”

Chow down on Punaluu Sweet Bread Peanut Butter Banana French Toast ($8.45) for a powerful start to your day or Prime Rib Sandwich ($15.45), a great dish to fuel up on for lunch, which comes with choice of fries, soup of the day or salad (tossed or mac).

If you’re looking for something to warm you up, try Oxtail Ramen, an item that is available at all times of the day ($16.50 breakfast and lunch, $17.95 dinner).

Fittingly, Pagoda also presents winning seafood bites like Island Style Catch “Molokai” ($14.95).

The restaurant continues to please with specials and events you won’t want to miss. Assistant manager Rayna Tacuban shares that there is a 15-percent discount off the early bird buffet for the month of August. Plus, check out the upcoming Wine at 5 event (5-7 p.m. Aug. 31) presenting delectable sippers from Aloha Wines & Sake. Call or visit the Pagoda website for more information.
