Celebrate Fourth of July with tasty dishes

Scallops and Shrimp ($16.95)

It’s been 242 years since our country officially separated from Great Britain and became the glorious independent United States of America. On a smaller scale, Wailana Coffee House has been serving the community for nearly 50 years providing classic bites.

This nostalgic mainstay continues its duty this Fourth of July with its Independence Day special menu that bursts with reliable flavor.

The dinner menu tops off with an American classic, Roast Prime Rib of Beef ($19.25). This slowly roasted, juicy hunk of meat is given its savory taste from an array of seasonings, and is accompanied by au jus and creamed horseradish sauce.

Barbecue Hickory Smoked Ribs ($17.75)

Another favorite includes Barbecue Hickory Smoked Ribs ($17.75). Nothing compares to this finger-licking-good rack of ribs slathered in glistening barbecue sauce. The meat is baked slowly until tender perfection that is truly, fall-off-the-bone good. And what better way to enjoy this American slab than with a serving of baked beans.

If meat is not exactly your cup of tea, then the Scallops and Shrimp ($16.95) is a delightful palate pleaser, as generous servings of the seafood pieces swim around in an indulgent white wine sauce with fresh mushrooms.

Roast Prime Rib of Beef ($19.25)

As is the Wailana tradition, diners can enjoy these entrees with a salad bar, as well as a choice of starch (baked or mashed potato, french fries or rice) and corn on the cob. For dessert sink your teeth into a decadent Apple Crisp and wash it all down with your choice of coffee, tea or a soft drink.

What’s more, start the celebratory day off with a big bang and light up your taste buds with Wailana’s Independence Day Breakfast Special of Portuguese Sweet Bread Combo ($11.95). This “sweet and salty” combination presents thick slices of sweet bread with orange marmalade partnered with two strips of bacon and two large eggs, which serve as worthy offsets to the bread and orange jam.

With Wailana’s convenient locale just on the outskirts of Waikiki, the eatery is the perfect spot to celebrate Fourth of July, as one can relish the exploding fireworks show in the evening.
