The Best Bites Of Italy

Spicy Italian ($14) and Gorgonzola Steak ($16) sandwiches, and FB Bloody Mary ($13)

The special of the day when Dining Out stopped into International Market Place’s Flour & Barley — a fresh establishment boasting exceptional Italian food and out-of-this-world brick-oven pizzas — was The Buffalo Chicken Pizza, loaded with spicy wing sauce, blue cheese, crispy chicken, ranch and scallions. The special was credited, in chalk, to chef Sonny Longford.

With endless pizza possibilities, such as the aforementioned daily special, cool-spot Flour & Barley also offers amazing lunch options, including top-notch Italian sandwiches. Standouts from the selection, offered between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., include Spicy Italian, Gorgonzola Steak and Grilled Chicken.

And when you’re contemplating the best spot to watch your NFL games this season, look no further than Flour & Barley, which will open at 7 a.m. on Sundays starting Sept. 10 for your viewing pleasure. And there’s beer, of course. Food and drink specials — including FB Bloody Mary — will be available during game time, plus parking is always free for the first hour.

SERVING UP SANDWICHES

Although Flour & Barley’s Neapolitan-style pies are generally the stars of the show at the Waikiki eatery, chef de cuisine Royce Arakaki encourages diners to try one of the restaurant’s sandwiches for lunch. Stuffed with a rotating selection of quality meat, Spicy Italian ($14) may include morta-della, pepperoni and soppressata, alongside herb mayo and fresh arugula. Gorgonzola Steak ($16) is another keeper with 8 ounces of NY steak, Gorgonzola, balsamic mayo, arugula and roasted onion. Both are prepared with toasted ciabatta and salad.
