Founded in 1976, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue has become an Island tradition for its tasty local-style plate lunches. Add convenience, generous portions, reasonable prices and friendly service, and it’s no surprise the local company has grown to more than 50 locations throughout Hawaii and approximately 184 around the world. Most recently, its newest branch opened in the First Hawaiian Center building in Downtown Honolulu just last month.

Among the most popular menu items are Chicken Katsu, Barbecue Chicken, Short Ribs, Barbecue Beef and Loco Moco.

“What makes us unique is we’re at the forefront of bringing this food throughout the world,” says director of marketing Brandon Dela Cruz. “We have the largest presence in Hawaii, but we’re pushing this type of cuisine internationally.”

For potlucks, special occasions or the upcoming graduation season, L&L’s catering platters are a great option for your party menu. Prices and offerings vary by location, however, it seems that Chicken Katsu is the most popular choice all around, according to Dela Cruz.

“It’s panko-breaded chicken, fried golden brown, crispy on the outside and tender inside,” he says. “And served with our special homemade chicken katsu sauce that’s sweet and tangy.”

Many other L&L favorites also available for catering include Barbecue Chicken, Barbecue Beef, Kalua Pork and Cabbage, Fried Shrimp and Garlic Shrimp.

While L&L Hawaiian Barbecue is known for its local-style plate lunches served with two scoops of rice and mac salad, the company also caters to customers craving healthier options. For example, the popular Garlic Shrimp plate also is available as a “Healthier Plate” (price varies per location) served with one scoop of brown rice, and a generous portion of fresh, tossed greens.
