For more than a quarter century, local diners have followed the “sizzle” to the home of superb steaks within a revitalized Kakaako corridor: Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
Diners are treated to exceptional steaks selected from the top 2 percent of the country’s beef, which are broiled in 1,800-degree ovens and served sizzling with butter on 500-degree plates — this ensures every bite is hot and delicious. The New Orleans-inspired cuisine at Ruth’s Chris features the finest USDA Prime steaks, fresh seafood, an award-winning wine list and a wide variety of appetizers, salads, side dishes and desserts. The interior boasts an inviting atmosphere accompanied by impeccable service and hospitality.
Executive chef Eser Domingo and his heart-of-the-house team recently implemented a host of new menu items that complement many customer favorites. Ruth’s Chris offers multiple cuts of wet-aged beef, including Filet ($55), a “Ruth’s Favorite” that features the most tender cut of corn-fed Midwestern beef. Each succulent steak is broiled to perfection and crafted to order.
“The local clientele loves this particular steak — it comes out sizzling and remains hot from the time it leaves the kitchen throughout the duration of the meal,” says Domingo. “We want you to sit back, relax and enjoy your experience. It’s all about great food, great wine and great service. If we get those elements correct, then you have a successful restaurant.”
Diners often choose to supplement their hearty steak with a selection of savory sides, including the newly introduced Grilled Asparagus ($14) served with hollandaise sauce. Domingo explains that the hand-snapped asparagus is prepared in a rustic style with a special blend of seasonings and olive oil before it is char-broiled to enhance the flavor and texture.
Domingo also recommends the new Crab Stack ($21), a flavor-packed tower that includes colossal lump blue crab, fresh avocado, mango and cucumber. The layered dish incorporates multiple tastes and textures, and also features accents provided by a citrus-and-Champagne vinaigrette, as well as a side of Sriracha cream sauce for “some heat that creates a party in your mouth.”
Fresh Mozzarella and Kumato Tomato Salad ($14) is another scintillating addition to the reataurant’s menu and is crafted with sweet tomatoes that originated in Spain and resemble plums. The salad also highlights fresh basil, aged balsamic glaze and extra virgin olive oil to offer rich flavors while remaining light.
Ruth’s Chris also is home to a can’t-miss happy hour menu available daily from 5 to 7 p.m. Appetizers come served as full portions — just as you would get upon ordering from the traditional menu — but at unbelievable prices. The pau-hana destination also offers up drink specials on everything from ice-cold draft beer to wine, well drinks and martinis.
Ruth’s Chris recently renovated its dining room and kitchen. It now has a fresh, modern look accented by contemporary interior designs of vibrant fabrics, stylish carpets, warm lighting and creative locally themed artwork — not to mention an enhanced state-of-the-art sound system. The brand new kitchen includes top-of-the-line equipment, allowing the talented chefs to prepare the stellar cuisine that guests have come to enjoy.
