With the season of Lent upon us, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue is making its meat-free dishes the dining stars these days (the next 40 days to be exact). Although the beloved barbecue spot still will offer its classic, tried-and-true temptations, those eschewing meat in observation of this special season will be more than happy to hear that L&L has you covered.

L&L also realizes that those patrons participating in this prayer-filled time still have more than a month-full of meals to make their way through sans meat — meaning that monotony and a culinary rut can be a menacing reality for most. However, you can have faith in L&L, as the eatery thankfully offers its customers a wide range of savory seafood selections to sustain oneself, an assurance for which we all can give thanks.

L&L’s director of marketing Brandon Dela Cruz explains that, “L&L thrives on spreading the aloha spirit in Hawaii and throughout the world (with our locations in the Mainland and internationally), one plate lunch at a time.”

In fact, L&L’s official slogan defines the locale as being “Hawaii’s Favorite Plate Lunch,” and no one is denying the truth of that title. But just in case you need some convincing, this trio is sure to make a believer of you yet.

Garlic Shrimp (price varies by location) gives patrons a generous serving of shrimp, flash-fried with butter and garlic — an offering that Dela Cruz says, “has become a popular item among customers because it’s full of flavor and available at most L&L locations.”

Garlic Fish (price varies by location) features grill-fried fish cooked with butter and garlic, a dish dripping with deliciously fresh flavor, which patrons just can’t wait to dive into.

Breaded Fried Fish (price varies by location) showcases L&L’s specially battered fish, deep-fried until golden brown and served with its signature tartar sauce.

All plates are available as “regular” (including two scoops of rice and mac salad) or “healthier” (including one scoop of brown rice and green salad). Dela Cruz also points to another exciting L&L deal. “We’re running a special on Fridays, where with any regular or healthy Seafood Plate purchase, you will get a free, small fountain drink,” he says.
